JC SOLAR PANELS PTY LTD
5-YEAR SOLAR INSTALLATION WORKMANSHIP WARRANTY
Terms and Conditions
JC Solar Panels Pty Ltd is committed to providing safe, professional and reliable solar and electrical installation services.
Subject to the terms and exclusions below, JC Solar Panels provides a 5-Year Solar Installation Workmanship Warranty on qualifying solar installation work performed under an official JC Solar Panels quotation and invoice.
This warranty applies to the installation workmanship and installation-related electrical work performed by JC Solar Panels and its appointed installation team.
The warranty is issued and administered by JC Solar Panels Pty Ltd.
Where an appointed installer or technician is assigned to the installation, they may be responsible for the installation configuration, wiring, commissioning and technical implementation of the system on behalf of JC Solar Panels. The contractual installation workmanship warranty remains with JC Solar Panels Pty Ltd and is subject to these terms and conditions.
The JC Solar Panels installation workmanship warranty is valid for a period of 5 years from the documented date of completion and commissioning of the installation.
The warranty applies only to the original installation work listed on the relevant JC Solar Panels quotation, invoice and agreed scope of work.
Any later system expansion, equipment replacement, rewiring, electrical alteration or additional installation work will be treated as separate work unless specifically included in writing by JC Solar Panels.
The installation warranty covers verified defects directly caused by the workmanship of JC Solar Panels or its appointed installation team.
Subject to inspection and technical verification, this may include:
Where a valid workmanship warranty claim is confirmed, JC Solar Panels will repair or rectify the defective installation workmanship at no additional labour charge to the customer.
This 5-year warranty is an additional express workmanship warranty and does not remove any rights that a consumer may have under applicable South African law.
The JC Solar Panels 5-Year Installation Workmanship Warranty is not a product replacement warranty.
Solar panels, inverters, batteries, monitoring devices, breakers, surge protection devices, contactors, relays, switchgear and other electrical or solar components may carry separate warranties provided by the applicable manufacturer, importer or distributor.
Manufacturer warranty periods and conditions differ between brands and products.
A failure of an inverter, battery, solar panel or electrical component does not automatically constitute an installation workmanship defect.
Where a supplied component fails, the applicable warranty claim may need to be processed according to the manufacturer’s or distributor’s testing, return, repair or replacement procedures.
JC Solar Panels may assist the customer with a valid manufacturer warranty or RMA process where the equipment was supplied by JC Solar Panels, subject to the applicable supplier and manufacturer procedures.
Nothing in these terms is intended to exclude or limit a customer’s statutory rights relating to supplied goods under applicable South African law.
Electrical breakers, surge protection devices, isolators, contactors, relays, fuse equipment and other switchgear are physical electrical components and may fail due to circumstances unrelated to installation workmanship.
The installation warranty does not provide an automatic free replacement of a failed electrical component merely because the component was installed as part of the solar installation.
A component failure must first be assessed to determine the cause of failure.
Examples of failures that may not constitute installation workmanship defects include:
Where an inspection confirms that the component failed because of incorrect installation by JC Solar Panels, the workmanship-related defect will be addressed in terms of this warranty.
Where the failure is a product defect, the applicable manufacturer, supplier or statutory warranty process will apply.
JC Solar Panels cannot warrant that a solar or electrical installation will be immune from lightning, utility surges, abnormal grid conditions or other extraordinary external electrical events.
The installation of surge protection or other electrical protection devices does not constitute a guarantee that no equipment damage can occur during a severe electrical event.
Damage caused directly or indirectly by lightning, exceptional surge events, fire, flooding or other external events will not automatically be regarded as an installation workmanship defect.
The cause of the failure may need to be technically assessed.
The customer may be required to refer such damage to their insurer or the applicable component manufacturer, depending on the nature and cause of the damage.
The installation warranty may be affected in respect of any fault or damage caused by a third party altering, repairing, rewiring, reconfiguring or expanding the system after commissioning.
This includes unauthorised changes to:
The warranty is not automatically cancelled in its entirety merely because a third party has worked at the property.
However, JC Solar Panels will not be responsible under this workmanship warranty for a defect, failure or damage to the extent that it was caused or materially contributed to by an unauthorised third-party alteration, interference or incorrect work.
Where the customer supplies their own inverter, battery, solar panels, switchgear or other equipment, JC Solar Panels’ installation warranty applies only to the installation workmanship performed by JC Solar Panels.
JC Solar Panels does not provide a manufacturer or product warranty on customer-supplied equipment.
Any product defect, compatibility problem, firmware issue, communication limitation or manufacturer warranty claim relating to customer-supplied equipment remains subject to the original supplier or manufacturer.
JC Solar Panels reserves the right to refuse to install components that are considered unsafe, incompatible, damaged or unsuitable for the proposed installation.
Unless a full property electrical inspection and full electrical rectification service are specifically quoted, the solar installation scope is limited to the work described in the accepted quotation.
JC Solar Panels is not automatically responsible for pre-existing electrical defects at the property, including:
Where a pre-existing fault is identified, JC Solar Panels may recommend or require rectification before the solar installation can be completed or certified.
Any additional rectification work outside the accepted quotation may require a separate quotation and customer approval.
Where included in the agreed installation scope, a Certificate of Compliance may be issued for qualifying electrical installation work performed.
The Certificate of Compliance will relate to the electrical work covered by the applicable inspection, testing and certification process.
Unless JC Solar Panels has specifically been appointed and paid to inspect, test and certify the entire existing electrical installation, a Certificate of Compliance associated with the solar installation must not be interpreted as confirmation that every existing electrical circuit or pre-existing part of the property is free of defects.
Where existing electrical defects prevent the relevant work from being certified, these defects may first need to be rectified.
Additional electrical rectification work may require a separate quotation.
JC Solar Panels will configure the system according to the agreed quotation, system design and known customer requirements at the time of installation.
The customer acknowledges that system runtime and solar production are influenced by factors including:
Any estimate regarding battery runtime, solar production, electricity savings or overall system performance is based on the information available and reasonable assumptions at the time.
Such estimates do not constitute a guarantee of a fixed daily energy yield, fixed electricity saving or fixed number of backup hours unless a specific written performance guarantee has been expressly agreed by JC Solar Panels.
The customer is responsible for operating the system within the rated capabilities of the inverter, batteries and installed electrical equipment.
Remote monitoring applications, Wi-Fi dongles, cloud platforms and manufacturer applications may rely on:
Temporary or permanent interruption of a monitoring platform does not necessarily indicate failure of the solar installation.
JC Solar Panels cannot guarantee uninterrupted operation of a third-party manufacturer cloud platform, monitoring service or internet service that is outside its control.
JC Solar Panels will take reasonable care when performing solar panel mounting work.
The installation workmanship warranty applies to mounting defects directly attributable to JC Solar Panels’ installation work.
The warranty does not cover pre-existing roof defects, ageing roof materials, structural movement, deteriorated waterproofing, concealed defects or damage caused by subsequent third-party roof work.
Where a roof leak or mounting concern is reported, JC Solar Panels must be given a reasonable opportunity to inspect the affected area before another contractor performs remedial work, except where emergency action is reasonably required to prevent immediate damage.
Where the leak or mounting defect is confirmed to have been directly caused by JC Solar Panels’ installation workmanship, reasonable remedial installation work will be undertaken in accordance with this warranty.
A customer wishing to submit an installation workmanship warranty claim should contact JC Solar Panels and provide the relevant installation details.
Customers may be requested to provide:
JC Solar Panels may first conduct remote troubleshooting where appropriate.
Where an on-site inspection is required, JC Solar Panels will arrange an assessment.
If the fault is confirmed to fall under the 5-Year Installation Workmanship Warranty, the relevant installation workmanship will be rectified in accordance with the warranty and applicable law.
Where the fault is confirmed to be unrelated to the original installation workmanship, an inspection, call-out, labour, travelling or repair charge may apply.
The customer will be advised of applicable charges before non-warranty repair work is undertaken.
To the extent permitted by applicable South African law, this express 5-year workmanship warranty does not cover faults or damage caused by:
These exclusions apply only to the extent that the relevant excluded circumstance caused or materially contributed to the reported fault or damage.
The customer must provide reasonable and safe access to the installation area.
Customers, occupants and other contractors must not interfere with electrical installation work while circuits, distribution boards, batteries, inverters or other electrical equipment are being installed, tested or commissioned.
JC Solar Panels or its appointed installation team may temporarily suspend work where site conditions create an unreasonable safety risk.
Any required changes to the agreed installation schedule or scope will be communicated to the customer.
JC Solar Panels’ installation obligation is limited to the items and services included in the accepted quotation and agreed scope of work.
Unless specifically quoted, the installation does not automatically include:
Any additional work identified during the installation will be discussed with the customer and may require a separate quotation.
Where JC Solar Panels confirms a valid defect in its installation workmanship, JC Solar Panels must be given a reasonable opportunity to inspect and remedy the defect.
Depending on the nature of the defect and subject to applicable South African law, the remedy may include:
This warranty does not automatically entitle the customer to replacement of a functioning inverter, battery, solar panel or other component where the confirmed defect relates only to installation workmanship.
Where a separate component defect is identified, the applicable supplier, manufacturer or statutory warranty process may apply.
The customer agrees to:
These warranty terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of South Africa.
Nothing in this warranty is intended to unlawfully exclude, restrict or waive any right or remedy that cannot legally be excluded under applicable South African consumer, electrical or occupational health and safety legislation.
Where any provision of these warranty terms conflicts with a mandatory provision of applicable law, the mandatory legal provision will apply and the remaining warranty terms will continue to apply to the extent legally permissible.
