Greenrich UP8000 8kWh Lithium Battery

The Greenrich UP8000 is a 51.2V lithium battery designed for residential and commercial solar-energy storage. It combines 8kWh of nominal capacity, a 156.4Ah rating and an 8,000W power rating in a compact battery enclosure. This makes it suitable for hybrid solar, backup-power and energy-management systems where both useful storage capacity and strong discharge performance are required.

The battery can store solar energy for use after sunset, support selected loads during grid interruptions and help reduce reliance on grid electricity when paired with a correctly sized compatible inverter. Actual backup time will depend on the connected load, inverter efficiency, programmed depth of discharge, battery state of charge and operating conditions.

8.007kWh Energy Storage Capacity

The UP8000 provides a nominal energy capacity of 8.007kWh at 51.2V and 156.4Ah. This capacity gives households and commercial users a practical energy reserve for essential circuits, business equipment or planned self-consumption. The usable energy available to the customer may be lower than the nominal figure because system settings, battery-protection limits and inverter losses must be considered.

Battery capacity should be selected from the amount of energy the customer needs over time, while inverter output should be selected from the maximum power required at any one moment. A professional system design must therefore consider both kilowatt-hours and kilowatts rather than treating battery capacity and inverter size as interchangeable values.

High-Power Discharge Performance

The battery is rated for 8,000W of power and uses cell technology advertised with a 1.5C discharging rate. Its specified maximum discharge current is 160A, while peak discharge current is 350A for 100ms. The short-duration peak rating is intended for momentary demand and excludes repeated short-duration current patterns.

Strong discharge capability can help the system support demanding loads when the inverter, cabling, protection equipment and battery settings are correctly matched. The battery does not by itself determine the amount of AC power available: the connected inverter rating, inverter surge capacity and overall electrical design remain equally important.

For improved battery cycle life, Greenrich recommends charging and discharging at 75A, equivalent to approximately 0.5C at 25°C. This recommended operating level is lower than the listed maximum-current ratings and should be considered when configuring the inverter and planning long-term daily use.

Charging and Discharging Parameters

The UP8000 supports CC, CV and CP charging modes, with a maximum charging current of 100A and a charging cut-off voltage of 57.4V. Discharging modes are specified as CC and CP, with a maximum discharge current of 160A and a discharge cut-off voltage of 44.8V.

These parameters must be entered or communicated correctly through the compatible inverter and battery-management system. Incorrect voltage or current settings can cause avoidable protection events or reduce battery performance. Final commissioning should follow the current Greenrich installation instructions and the requirements of the selected inverter model.

Smart BMS Protection

An integrated smart battery-management system continuously manages the battery’s permitted operating conditions. The listed BMS functions include overvoltage and undervoltage protection, short-circuit protection, low- and high-temperature charging protection, low- and high-temperature discharging protection, charging and discharging over-current protection and a dormancy function.

These protections help prevent the battery from operating outside its defined limits. When the BMS activates a protection state, the battery or inverter may reduce or stop charging or discharging until safe conditions return. The cause of repeated protection events should be investigated rather than bypassed.

Wi-Fi Monitoring and Inverter Communication

The UP8000 includes a smart Wi-Fi BMS with an AI function and supports RS485, CAN and RS232 communication. Communication allows a compatible inverter and battery to exchange operating data and coordinate charging and discharging limits.

The datasheet lists compatibility with a broad range of inverter brands, including Greenrich, Solis, Deye, Sunsynk, Growatt, Lux Power, GoodWe, East, SMA, Sinexcel, Victron, Voltron, Chisage, Must, SofarSolar, Solax, Megarevo, Voltronic Power, SRNE, Pylon Tech, SAJ, Kehua and Sermatec. Compatibility should still be verified for the exact inverter model, firmware version, communication cable and battery protocol before purchase or installation.

Residential and Commercial Applications

The Greenrich UP8000 can form part of a residential backup system, a solar self-consumption installation or a commercial energy-storage solution. Its combination of capacity and power makes it useful where a smaller 5kWh battery may provide insufficient storage or discharge capability.

Possible applications include supporting household essentials during outages, storing daytime PV production for evening use, powering office or retail loads during supply interruptions and expanding a compatible battery-storage system. The quantity of batteries required must be determined from the total energy demand, required backup duration, inverter power and the manufacturer’s permitted battery configuration.

Operating and Storage Conditions

The specified charging-temperature range is 0°C to +50°C, while the discharge-temperature range is -20°C to +60°C. Permitted relative humidity is 5% to 95% RH, non-condensing. The battery should be installed in a dry, protected and suitably ventilated location that remains within these operating limits.

Storage temperature is specified as -20°C to +45°C for up to three months and -20°C to +25°C for up to one year. Shipment status is specified at 52V to 54V and 60% to 80% state of charge. Long-term storage and recommissioning should follow the manufacturer’s maintenance and state-of-charge requirements.

Compact High-Capacity Enclosure

The battery dimensions are 438 × 536 × 220.6mm, with an approximate weight of 68kg. The installation surface, cabinet, rack or supporting structure must be suitable for the battery’s weight and dimensions. Adequate access should be allowed for the power terminals, communication ports, isolating equipment and maintenance.

Because the unit is heavy, safe lifting and handling procedures are required. The battery should not be positioned where it may be exposed to moisture, condensation, physical damage, excessive heat or unauthorised access.

Cycle Life and Warranty

The datasheet specifies a service life of more than 6,000 cycles and a 10-year warranty. Actual battery life depends on charging and discharging current, depth of discharge, operating temperature, installation quality, firmware, system configuration and compliance with the applicable warranty conditions.

The recommended 75A charge and discharge current at 25°C is particularly relevant where long cycle life is prioritised. Maximum current capability describes what the battery can support within its limits, while the recommended current provides guidance for less demanding daily operation.
